On his birthday, we were right in the middle of new house renovations. Barrett, of course, was helping daily!! Unfortunately, we didn't have any furniture, pots/pans, beds, etc. and we don't know anyone who lives here yet, so we really couldn't do much by way of a celebration.
So, as a treat on his birthday, we took him to Home Depot and let him drive one of the car carts. He LOVES these carts and had a blast following Daddy around in the store, looking for screws and other random things for the house.
And, as an extra treat, we took him to the ceiling fan aisle when we were done shopping. The kid was in heaven. He LOVES ceiling fans and was pretty excited to see so many all in one place! He had never been there before, so it was pretty exciting for him.
Grandma and Grandpa bought a cake for him, so we lit the candles and sang happy birthday.
He was a little wary of the cake at first...
...but once we gave him a fork, he had a blast playing in the cake!
Of course, bath time followed the cake devouring. And, luckily, Barrett was still small enough to fit in the in kitchen sink, since his bathroom and bathtub were still under construction!
He also really enjoyed opening his presents from all his loving family members, which included this awesome puppy from Granny and Grandpa Traub...
...a cool laptop from Gran-D...
...and a fun motorcycle from Grandma and Grandpa!
It was fun to have some new toys to play with, since most of his things were still in storage!
At 12 months old, our sweet little boy can...
- eat anything and everything and loves to chow down!
- loves using a fork and spoon for his meals
- likes to feed himself
- drinks out of cups with straws like a pro
- is no longer using bottles or formula
- sleeps like a rock 11-12 hours a night with one 2-3 hour nap after lunch
- loves his puppy dogs and enjoys terrorizing them while chasing them around the new house
- can say a few words ("ilk" for milk, "mama" just a few times), but chooses not to talk very much yet (It's truly amazing how I can sit with this kid at dinner, though, and feel like I have an entire conversation with him throughout the meal. He points, "asks" questions, and makes it very clear that he understands every single word I say to him without any doubt. In fact, any time we ask him to say anything (like mama or dada), he smirks at us and laughs like, "Yes mom, I CAN say it... I just don't see why I should!!" He has also started signing "more" and "all done" more consistently, but he is best at just answering the questions you ask him with certain motions and grunts.)
- can RUN around the house with his walker and chase the dogs
- is becoming a more independent walker, although he is more comfortable holding someone's fingers
- is SLOWLY getting used to playing in the sand!
We don't have many pictures from this month, due to the move and renovations we have been doing, but here are a few extra for your enjoyment:
Hanging out with Daddy...
Sometimes eating yogurt by yourself is really tough!
