Stylin' in her hair bows :)
Snoozing like a champ - she can sleep through almost anything!
She's just the most precious thing, although she does have a very dramatic side. She doesn't like to sit in dirty diapers (who would!!), but she can be patient. But sometimes, out of no where, she will SCREAM at the top of her lungs and demand attention RIGHT AWAY. She gets really huffy puffy and will take a while to calm down, but this doesn't happen very often. She's generally a very happy baby! She does NOT like to sleep on her back, so we have been using her carseat as her bed lately. She is also very happy to snuggle on anybody's chest, but likes Mommy's the best. She screams and cries anytime we try to put her in her bed or the bassinet, so we will just have to keep working on that... She loves to be held and swaddled, and she's a very fun baby to snuggle with!
A rare wakeful moment
She absolutely will NOT take a pacifier; in fact, every time we put one in her mouth she literally will choke and gag herself on it and get the most disgusted look on her face. And her other facial expressions are just as cute - we especially love her pucker face (read: "I just ate a very sour lemon" face) which usually indicates that she is about to poop. She smiles in her sleep (mainly gassy smiles, though), and she is starting to enjoy looking in the mirror. She will play in her play gym, but only for about five minutes. She enjoys looking at the animals and colors, and Barrett will make the music play and lights flash for her, which she seems to enjoy. She hasn't been awake very much lately, though! She usually sleeps all morning (from about 8am until 11:30ish), wake up to eat, sleep again until 1:30 or so, eat, sleep some more in the afternoon, eat and sleep some more (ahhh, the life of a newborn!). Her nighttime schedule varies daily, but generally, she is going to bed around 10pm, waking up to eat at 1am and 4am, and sleeping the rest of the time. We are slowly getting on a schedule, but we have a ways to go yet.
And, a little update on Barrett:
He is so much fun!! :)
Barrett loves his little sister, and the minute she cries, he makes sure we know about it. He lets us know where we should put her (usually the monkey bouncy seat), when she is hungry, and where her diapers are so we can change her. He also loves to "help" me pump and "help" Madison play in her play gym. He constantly offers Madison his milk, apples, snacks, whatever he is eating at the time. If I tell Barrett Madison is hungry, he tells me he is hungry too. If Madison is having a snack, Barrett wants one too. If Madison needs a diaper change, Barrett wants one too. It is really cute to watch him be so aware of Madison and what she is doing! He is entirely full of energy, though, and I can't get him to sit still enough to take many pictures of them together. He is also starting to test limits, test what happens when he doesn't do what we ask him, and push buttons to see what happens, so we are working on lots of discipline, training, and general behavior.
And, because we decided that life wasn't busy enough around here, we took Barrett out of diapers this week and started working on potty training. He is doing GREAT. He has had a few accidents, but he really "gets" it and is successful 95% of the time!! He gets REALLY excited about flushing it all down the potty, so we are having fun doing this with him.
He still doesn't have many words, but when he gets really excited about doing something, he will say "oh yeah". He will respond positively ("yeah") and negatively ("mmm mmm") to comments or questions. He will tell you that a cow says "mmmmmm" and he will say "ph ph ph" for please. He signs "all done" and "more" very enthusiastically. He will say "mama" and "dada" on command and when he is running around babbling. He says "uh oh" to anything that is out of place or that needs to be taken care of. He still likes to help clean up his toys, wipe up his spot at the table, and wash his hands. He is very clean and tidy, but he sure knows how to make a mess! He LOVES to help feed the dogs, take out the recycling and trash, pick fruits and veggies out of our garden, and give the dogs their vitamins. And by loves, I mean he goes CRAZY with excitement when he gets to do it!
We have been keeping busy with Barrett! He loves going to story time at the library, the park, and anything water related. We have been to the beach several times and he loves it!! He LOVES his music class that we go to weekly, especially since the water park nearby has opened up and he gets to play there afterwards. We have been swimming in our pool, playing basketball, playing on the patio and in the backyard, and taking walks in our new double stroller. He also loves going to see the fishies at the Gulfarium! (I really wish they could come up with new routines for the shows - I can literally recite the entire show (jokes included) that they do every time! But Barrett loves it, so we keep going...) He is just so much fun to do things with, and I'm so glad that Madison is fitting right in with our schedule.
And me?
I'm doing really well and having a much better recovery experience this time around. Madison and I aren't having any issues with breastfeeding, which is also such a blessing. And I feel really good and healthy, able to take my kids on walks, go to activities with Barrett, keep the house clean-ish, etc. I can't wait to have my six week checkup so I can get cleared to go back to working out at Baby Boot Camp and swimming. I love hanging out with my babies and am so looking forward to the summer with them! We miss our friends at BBC, and I can't wait to get in the pool with Barrett for swimming lessons!
All is well in Destin. We look forward to seeing everyone at various points this summer!
Happy one month to Madison and happy 21 months to Barrett!
